Melton Quarry is a long-established quarry located near Hull. High Purity calcium carbonate (chalk) is quarried to produce a range of specialist fillers, powders and extenders for a variety of industrial and chemical applications.
Challenges:
- Reserves of the high quality chalk were running low and the end date for the quarry operation was approaching;
- The Site was located in sensitive landscape with visual and cultural heritage constraints.
Quarryplan Involvement:
- Design of major quarry extension scheme;
- Project managing a detailed and highly technical EIA for the proposed development.
Outcome:
- Secured planning permission for the development without objections from statutory consultees or from any local residents and with permission granted under delegated powers;
- Permission delivers 13 million tonnes of high quality chalk and extends the end date of the quarry to 2064.
